Chairman, Pakistan Hosiery Manufactures Association (PHMA), Jawed Bilwani said that over 150 Rachel (Karl Mayer) Germany wrap knitting machines had been exported to China by the export-oriented knitting industry of Pakistan just because of the costs of vitally important utilities such as gas, electricity, water etc, which had made impractical to run the industries.
In a letter to secretaries, ministries of Commerce and Textile, he said that China was importing such renowned German machines, which it could not produce, owing to involvement of the special metallurgy into it.
The Chines experts further modified these machines electronically, which is proving most beneficial to them, but caused a great loss to Pakistan exporters, who are closing down their units.
He feared that if no measures were initiated to stop closing down of knitting industry this would follow closing down their circular knitting machines, stitching machines, dyeing and processing machines heading for the junkyard with billions of dollars down the drain.
