Former senior vice president of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Zakaria Usman has announced to contest forthcoming chamber's elections for the office of president as an independent candidate. Addressing a press conference at a local hotel on Tuesday, he said that he made this decision after consulting his fellow KCCI members.
He said that the chamber had totally failed to represent the business community to remove their grievances at government level. He said the KCCI management made no efforts to restore power supply in industrial areas at the time when total power supply remained cut off for more than ten days.
Trade activities had been affected adversely, as roads turned into dilapidated roads, rainwater standing in factories and warehouses but the chamber could not try to cooperate with the city government in normalising the conditions.
Zakaria Usman claimed that he enjoys support of sitting members of the KCCI managing committee and after becoming president he would run KCCI affairs smoothly.
He claimed to have a vast experience of running affairs of trade bodies as he remained KCCI senior vice president, chairman Consul of Karachi Industrial Association (CKIA) and chairman FPCCI standing committee on taxation.
Replying to a question about My Karachi exhibition of KCCI, he said that this exhibition was a flop show. He promised that if he succeeded in the elections he would leave no stone unturned to resolve issues facing the businessmen.
