Chairman Hamza Welfare Foundation and Thalassemia Control Programme, Ijaz Ali Khan has said that blood donation is a charity work which is not hazardous to health as the doctors suggest that healthy people can donate blood after three months.
He expressed these views while talking to APP here on Tuesday. Ijaz Ali Khan said that a proper screening of the donated blood is being carried out on latest machines to ascertain that it is medically fit for transfusion. Free screening reports of Hepatitis B, C, HIV AIDS, Malaria Parasite and blood groups are provided to the blood donators, he added.
He said that blood camps are being held in various educational institutions and other places to help collect free blood donation for the children suffering from the Thalassemia and other blood-related diseases. To raise awareness in the people and to stop the spreading of Thalassemia, which is basically a hereditary disease, workshops are being held continuously in various parts of the city, he added.
He said that blood camps are being held recently in Razi Institute of Medical Sciences Peshawar, Jamrud and Meerabad Pul Charsadda where in a total of 68 students and local people have donated their blood.
He informed that Social Organiser of Hamza Foundation, Muhammad Younas and Dr Shah Faisal have delivered extensive lectures in workshops regarding effective precautionary measures necessary to be taken to minimise the chances of Thalassemia disease in children.
"We should avoid the practice of inter-family marriages to halt the further spread of the disease, he maintained and stressed that people should be educated about the causes of thalassemia to effectively curb the growing problem".
