US technology stocks rose on Tuesday as investors snapped up shares following broker upgrades of chip maker Advanced Micro Devices Inc and XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc.
A pullback in crude oil prices also spurred buying in some industrial companies with a high demand for energy, including aircraft manufacturer Boeing Co and heavy equipment maker Caterpillar Inc.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 9.60 points, or 0.08 percent, at 11,354.65. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 3.21 points, or 0.25 percent, at 1,300.73. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 7.88 points, or 0.37 percent, at 2,155.63.
