It is only in Karachi, that roads, underpasses and posh residential housing societies are built, without any water drainage system. The day after it rained, Karachi resembled a war-ravaged city, its roads inundated with two-foot water, cars submerged, yet not one in the city administration or provincial administration, has been held accountable or made to resign.
For the past seven years, the province is being run by a particular political party, and now the city government is also with them. All major roads had been dug, inspite of the onset of monsoon season. To put the blame on rains, is a criminal behaviour. Over 26 innocent citizens have been reportedly killed, while scores of others died for want of medical aid, which they could not have access to. Except for Edhi Trust, nobody was visible. It is indeed shameful.
Yet inspite of all this, which should have put to shame those in power, we witnessed hooligans ransack the Quaid's mausoleum on August 14, while the law-enforcing agencies stood by. Who is responsible for the lawlessness that prevails in Karachi today?
The poor tax-paying citizens stranded in their cars, submerged in stagnant rain water on Karachi roads, were deprived of their mobiles and cash by hooligans. Yet nobody in the administration has the courage to close the shops that sell stolen cellular phones.
