The Commander, 5 Corps, Lieutenant General Ahsan Azhar Hayat, who is also the President of Defence Housing Authority Executive Board, emphasised the need for taking proper stock of post rain situation in DHA. He was presiding over a meeting of the DHA Executive Board held at DHA office on Wednesday, said a press release.
He asked the DHA officials to evolve a comprehensive plan for redesigning sewerage and storm water drainage systems futuristically to solve the problem on permanent basis. He also ordered immediate repairs of all roads damaged due to rains in DHA.
Lieutenant General Azhar Hayat emphasised that a well-planned strategy should be initiated to ensure that the infrastructural system flaws and deficiencies were effectively addressed.
He asked DHA and CCB to ensure proper co-ordination with City District Government of Karachi (CDGK) while planning their sewerage and drainage systems, the statement added.
The Executive Board meeting also directed to take proactive steps for improvement of security environment in DHA by augmenting the efforts of police through enhanced patrolling and monitoring by vigilance of the area.
The Board was also informed that 25 modern electronic cameras were being installed at various locations in DHA, including commercial areas for the monitoring purpose.
The Executive Board expressed its dissatisfaction over the work of garbage and debris removal by CBC contractors in the area.
The corps commander emphasised the need for capacity building of CBC and asked the DHA vigilance to constantly monitor the sanitation and keep the management informed of the lapses for ensuring remedial actions.
He impressed upon DHA to expedite its efforts for bringing its ongoing mega projects to an advanced stage of completion, and said those projects would bring a quantum transformation in the quality of living environments and help DHA to meet the changing requirements of the future. The Board asked DHA to bring suitable changes in construction of bylaws to make them more realistic and user friendly.
The corps commander paid glowing tributes to the outgoing DHA Administrator Brigadier Maqsood Hussain for his momentous contributions for the betterment of DHA during his three years memorable tenure. Later, Brigadier Kamran Aziz Qazi, the new administrator of the DHA took oath as Member Executive Board. He would take charge of his office from September 1.-PR
