Lenovo Group Ltd , the world's third-largest computer maker, said on August 31 that it has hired another former executive from bigger rival Dell Inc, the latest such departure from the troubled US firm.
Gerry Smith, 43, former vice president of Dell's Singapore design centre and its displays business unit, was named senior vice president, global supply chain at Lenovo.
Smith replaced Liu Jun, 37, who had elected to take a one-year sabbatical to pursue advanced executive studies, Lenovo said in a statement. Earlier this month, two former Dell executives were named to head Lenovo's operations in the Asia Pacific and Japan.
Those moves were the latest in a string of executive departures in the past year for Dell in Asia, which now accounts for more than 13 percent of the company's global sales.
In December, Dell's Asia-Pacific head, William Amelio, left the company to become chief executive at Lenovo, which became the world's third-biggest PC maker after buying IBM's PC assets.
