President, Pervez Musharraf, is likely to announce concessions to facilitate export of more items from Pakistan to Afghanistan for enhancing bilateral trade during his two-day visit to Kabul. Commencing from September 6.
Sources said the president may also ease certain restrictions for Kabul on import of banned items from Pakistan to increase trade between the two countries to the new heights.
Pakistan is targeting its exports to Kabul to over one billion dollars for 2006-07. Its trade with Kabul has gone up considerably during the last few years, but the two sides are still finding ways and means to give boost to their mutual trade.
One of the officials told Business Recorder that Pakistan was looking for more aggressive role to increase its trade with Afghanistan and the president Pervez Musharraf will offer some concessions to his Afghan counterpart during the meetings with him.
Sources said Pervez Musharraf will discuss with his Afghan president important international, regional and bilateral issues, besides offering assistance to his government for rehabilitation of different key sectors such as education, health, building up of different new departments for running that country on modern lines.
Musharraf will also ensure his Afghan counterpart that Pakistan will keep on providing financial support for his government. Sources said the war on terror, Pak-Afghan co-ordinated role to face its challenges and president general Pervez Musharraf''s upcoming visit to USA will also come under discussion during the meeting of the two presidents.
