The National Assembly was informed on Wednesday that no Pakistani citizen has so far been handed over to United States over alleged involvement in terrorism. State Minister for Defence, Zafar Iqbal Warraich said the government has no clue of missing persons who had gone to Afghanistan for Jihad.
Replying to a call attention notice regarding non-release of prisoners including Saifullah Paracha from Guantanamo Bay, he said nearly 32 Pakistanis were still languishing there and in Bagram cells.
The opposition members criticised the government for handing over innocent people to the US. They said Pakistani businessman Saifullah Paracha was apprehended from Karachi airport by intelligence agencies and then handed over to the US authorities.
But Zafar Warraich contradicted the opposition members and said Paracha was lifted from Bangkok, adding the government had nothing to do with his arrest.
He said Uzair Paracha, son of Saifullah Paracha, has been convicted for 30 years, over his involvement in terrorist activities and he has admitted before the court that his father was facilitating him. He informed the house that 32 Pakistanis, 12 at Guantanamo Bay and 20 at Bagram are still behind the bars and the government was making serious efforts for their early release.
