Saboor Ahmed has been elected unopposed as the member, managing committee of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), for two years. Businessmen Group (BMG) of Siraj Kasim Teli had nominated Saboor Ahmed as their candidate on Town Association seat. September 7 was the last date for filing nomination but no other candidate, other than Saboor, filed papers for this seat.
The Chamber received eight nominations on president's seat including Majyd Aziz of BMG and Zakaria Usman, an independent candidate. For 14 seats of the managing committee 25 nominations were received.
The names of BMG candidates, who have filed their nomination papers, include Muhammad Haroon Agar, Muhammad Idrees Memon, Altaf Majeed S.T., Owais Jangda, Muhammad Usman Iqbal, Muhammad Irfan, Muzammil Hussain, Danish Saeed, Amir Abdullah Zaki, Faisal Khalil, Kamran Ellahi, Alamgir Khokar, Arshad Islam and Muhammad Younis Soomro. The names of other candidates could not be ascertained, as the KCCI secretary said they would be made public after scrutiny.
The chamber has fixed September 11 as last date for withdrawal of candidature.
In pursuance of the amended article 32(c) of articles of association of the KCCI, the president will be elected directly from the body for a term of one year. The election will be held on September 16.
