President Pervez Musharraf is due to leave Islamabad on visits to Europe, Cuba and the United States on Monday, September 11. He will remain away from the country till September 28. On his first stop at Brussels, he would address the European Parliament on September 12.
He is also expected to speak at the 'Global discourse on Kashmir' in Brussels on September 12-13. He will proceed to Havana to attend the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on September 16. In Havana, President Musharraf and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are likely to meet at the sidelines of the NAM Summit.
During the bilateral meeting, both leaders may discuss 'how to take the peace process forward'. The peace process was disrupted in the wake of the Mumbai blasts in July this year when Foreign Secretary-level talks between both the countries were put off without fixing new dates.
During the visit President Pervez Musharraf is likely to hold talks with US President George W Bush on September 22 at the White House. Two more meetings are likely to be held between the two presidents, and they would also have a one-to-one meeting.
The war on terrorism, defence co-operation, Pak-US strategic dialogue, Indo-Pakistan peace process particularly the Kashmir issue, issues like nuclear non-proliferation and democracy in Pakistan, the Middle East issue and Iran's nuclear programme would be the key talking points during the talks.
During his visit to the US, President Musharraf will address students at the Georgetown University. He would also meet Pakistani community from across the US. President Musharraf will be in the US for almost 10 days. In New York he will attend the United Nations General Assembly session. UN Secretary General Kofi Annan would be chief guest in the launching ceremony of President Musharraf's autobiography "In the line of fire" in New York on September 25.
