Pakistan is following a strategy to win hearts and minds of people, Ambassador Mahmud Ali Durrani said, while expressing the hope that the recent peace agreement in the tribal area would help fight off terror.
He told CNN on Friday that last week's peace agreement in the tribal region had military, economic and political dimensions. "It is not just guns that will resolve the problem, we have to go deeper down, and that is what we are doing, we are trying to win hearts and minds of people and that is something other people need to learn too," he stated in reference to socio-economic development.
Durrani informed the channel that an overwhelming majority of the people in tribal areas supports the government and expressed the confidence that the agreement would be helpful in the war on terror.
Replying to a question, the envoy observed that most of the attacks taking place in Afghanistan were not close to the border. "There are people inside Afghanistan," he said, while calling for improvement in terms of policing, military operations and intelligence inside that country.
"I think we will be better off then - blame game does not help." He stressed that Pakistan was for a stable and peaceful Afghanistan. He said country's actions against terrorists including deployment of 80,000 troops along the border clearly reflect the country's firm resolve to wipe out terrorism.
