Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said that meeting of President Musharraf with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would decide the fate of the peace process between India and Pakistan.
"The meeting of the two leaders is of great significance and would have far reaching impact on the politics of South Asian region", the minister said while talking to reporters here on Tuesday. He was chief guest at prize distribution ceremony of Islamic International Commerce College.
He termed the meeting of President Musharraf with US President Bush of great significance. Pakistan played leading role in war against terrorism and this is the time to get political and economic favours from the US, he added.
Responding to a question about the Women Protection Bill, Rashid said that the government would get it approved from the parliament. "Government had a deal with the MMA and there is no possibility of their MPs resignations after approval of the bill", he said adding that the matters had been settled and there is no threat to the government.
He said that four ministers were tasked to set the things right regarding the bill. Opposition, he said, is not in a position to create any problem for government. Friendly-shots from the opposition would not harm the government", he added.
Earlier, addressing the students and faculty of the Islamic International Commerce College, the minister said as a result of decline in male education, Rawalpindi would be facing a big social problem in time to come. "Female education in Rawalpindi has witnessed manifold increase while the male education is declining," he deplored.
Rashid said that he established over 60 educational institutions in the city to fight poverty, unemployment and illiteracy. We have no industry and agriculture in Rawalpindi so education is only way to earn honourable living and contribute towards the country's economic growth, he added. The minister urged the students to work hard and keep in mind the interests of the country.
