Speakers in a protest rally have urged the government to give political process a chance instead of using power to resolve the Balochistan issue.
Balochistan Solidarity Committee organised a protest demonstration on Tuesday against the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti and other Baloch leaders, in which workers of leftist and other political, social and labour organisations participated.
Holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the military operation in Balochistan and expressing solidarity with Baloch people they were chanting anti-government slogans.
Meraj Muhammad Khan, Yousuf Mastikhan of National Workers Party, Labour Party's Shehla Rizwan and Nasir Mansoor, Mazhar Advocate of Awami Tehrik, Kamran Abbass of Pakistan Mazdoor Ittehad, Taj Mari of Awami Jamhoori Inqilabi Workers Committee, Shaikh Majeed of Peoples Labour Bureau, Raheel Iqbal of PPP, Azra Parveen of Aurat Tahreek, Sherbaz Khan of Progressive Youth Front and Sher Muhammad Khan of Jamhoori Wattan Party addressed the rally.
Castigating government for killing of Akbar Bugti, they said that military action against Baloch people since last one-and-half-year was unprecedented in Pakistan's history, alleging "Rulers bombed its own citizens, including innocent children and women, while thousands of Baloch youth were disappeared in a mysterious way".
They observed that the federal interior minister had himself claimed that the government had detained about 4000 people during current Balochistan conflict. They deplored that even today relatives were not informed with allegations charged against their missing youths and in many cases it was not known that where were the detained people kept.
They said the people were already angry over the deteriorating situation of Balochistan and now the murder of Akbar Bugti might prove dangerous for the integrity of country in general and Balochistan in particular.
They were of view that until frustration of Baloch people and other deprived communities were not removed and their due rights not given to them the peace could not be established in the country.
They recalled that in 1970 Bengali people were compelled to choose separation when brutal power of army was used against them. They said military regimes always usurped rights of people by damaging democratic institutions and frightening people through various means to prolong dictatorship.
They urged that the right of Baloch people should be acknowledged over resources of their province. They stressed upon immediate withdrawal of military and to cease ongoing operation in Balochistan.
They also demanded to stop setting up more cantonments in Balochistan and called for constituting a 'Fact finding commission' to probe into the ongoing military operation.
