The worlds largest and most acclaimed torrent provider, Kickass Torrents after being closed down recently is back up again, thankfully to the contributors who had been looking after it.
Federal authorities of the US, had taken the site down initially around July after the immediate arrest of Artem Vaulin , the sites supposed owner.
Like most of the torrent sites, KAT [kickassTorrents] servers were spread intricately all across the globe, deeming them difficult if not impossible to track or take down simultaneously. Whilst, the federal authorities seized the domain names and made arrests, the original database remained whole.
According to reports, the sites contributors inclusive of moderators, forum admins and members congregated together to resurrect the site and their progress has been recorded on the forums at Katcr.co.
The team has now stitched anew a site that looks like the original KAT and has the new url: Katcr.co/new
The admins and site-runners lacking the original database code so the new site is not a precise replica of the old one; however the user database is new and the torrent database is still in the works.
The chance to rebuild the site from scratch has apparently given the team to build a more secure KAT.
In order to keep our members safe we chose to rebuild and keep only safe elements. Despite the fact that a rebuild took longer, the safety of our community comes first, a community member told a leading torrent-tracker
Interestingly, the KAT crew seems unconcerned by legal action against the site. They claim that the site follows DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) procedures and that their goal is to maintain KAT as a community-based forum and a torrent search engine that does not host unlawful content.
