imageISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has completed installation of a processing plant at its Kunnar Pasakhi Deep (KPD) gas field in Sindh province, which was in pending for last 10 years.

"It (plant) will provide an additional 80 mmcfd of gas, 400 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and 4,000 barrels per day (bpd) in winter this year," official sources told APP here on Monday.

They said natural gas consumers would get additional gas in sufficient quantity during this winter after the government succeeded to produce more gas from exploratory wells and injection of Regassified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) in the transmission network.

The current government in last three years, they said, had so far added 944 mmcfd gas in the system out of which 466 mmcfd came from new discoveries and 478 mmcfd gas from existing wells.

The sources said the government encouraged local as well as foreign oil and gas companies to accelerate exploration and production activities to meet ever-increasing energy needs of the country that resulted in drilling of 319 wells and discovery of 91 oil and gas reserves.

The success rate in the oil and gas exploration jumped from 31 percent to 55 percent, they said, adding that the oil and gas exploration activity increased by 40 percent under the current government.

Due to increased oil and gas exploration activities, they said, around 32,000 bpd additional oil had been added to the system, out of which 11,000 bpd oil was through new discoveries and 21,000 bpd oil from existing fields.

The government, the sources said, had initiated different gas related projects worth Rs 800 billion, including setting up of the LNG terminals and gas pipelines to meet the energy needs.
