Pakistans middle-order batsman Asad Shafiq has been headlining the cricketing world after his breathtaking inning of 137 against the mighty Aussies, taking Pakistan right to the doorstep of what could have been one of the greatest victory in Test history.
Cricket legends have showered glowing tributes on Asad Shafiq, whose ninth ton at number six surpassed the legendry West Indian All-Rounder Sir Garfield Sobers.
Pakistans World Cup winning captain Imran Khan praised the Pakistani team and Shafiq in particular saying that there is no shame in losing if the match is hard fought.
"Great fightback by Pak in Brisbane led by gutsy Shafiq.There's no shame in losing when team fights to the last ball. They have made us proud," tweeted Imran Khan.
Whereas, former Indian batsman and now a renowned commentator, Sanjay Manjrekar appreciated Asads ability to score big in hostile conditions.
"Asad Shafiq has a hundred at Oval, one at Cape Town & now in Brisbane. For a player from the subcontinent that's exceptional!" he said.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan cricket team and fellow players didnt shy away from admiring the efforts by the gutsy batsman.
