As many as 13 persons were killed and many others wounded when a clash erupted between two tribes belonging to the Bachhri-Baloch and a nomad tribe of south Waziristan in Bhakkar, Tuesday evening.
The clash occurred after a young woman was eve-teased by men affiliated with either one tribe, the police asserted. DPO Bhakkar Raja Mushtaq Ahmed said at least seven persons from both sides died at the spot in the clash and two others died on the way to hospital, he added.
To a query he said 'I am not in a position to give the exact figure of the causalities or injured but according to eyewitnesses four Pathans fell into the river during the clash taking the death toll to 13.
He said, police and elite force from different police stations of the district have been called to control the situation and arrest the persons involved in planning the clash between the rival tribes.
Two injured persons Ehsan-ullah and Ramzan were admitted at the Nishtar Hospital Multan. They are in critical condition, DPO Raja told newsmen. Quoting members belonging to one tribe he said, they had forbidden members of the other tribe from entering their area and graze cattle heads. 'Hours earlier before the bloody clash they caught members f the same tribe caught hold of Muhammad Yasin Bacchri who their called an intruder and subjected him to torture'.
The news spread like forest fire and his supporters rushed to his rescue where their opponents were already took guard near village Gujja Jandeerabad, the DPO added. During crossfire four persons Mumtaz Ahmed, Haji Saeed Ahmed, Muhammad Nawaz and Ihsan died instantly while five persons of nomad Pathan tribe also died and another four jumped into the river Indus and are also feared dead. The police following the clash arrested Nawa Khan son of Amir Khan, Muhammad Khan son of Sardar Khan, Gul Khan, Alwazai Khan, Omar Khan, Alam Gul, Zafar Khan Niaz Ahmed, Noor Khan and Ali Khan and started investigations.
