This is with reference to the news published about the 'Cell phone jamming system'. After a long delay, cellular operators have launched a system, which will block the stolen and snatched mobile handsets with help of IMEI number.
All the cellular operators should inform their subscribers about the method of this jamming system through advertisements and by sending SMS to them.
We have watched re-makes of a few national songs by a leading cellular operator to pay tribute to Pakistani nation. Mobile phone snatching often caused deaths of our citizen, thus making it a critical issue for the government to take initiatives.
In my opinion, cellular operators or the government should also produce a short tele-film to make people aware about the technique to use this system, because especially in rural areas people are not much literate.
Secondly, since IMEI number is re-programmable and can be changed by the aid of computers, so PTA should keep trying to find some other ways as well to completely stop mobile phone snatching.
On the other hand, mobile handsets manufacturers have to provide mobile sets with fixed IMEI numbers that cannot be changed.
This system is not 100 percent effective until and unless we have handsets with embedded IMEI numbers. Lastly, I would like to congratulate all the bodies associated with the launch of this jamming system and wish them success.
