China, one of the world's top sugar consumers, has said 2007 low-tariff import quotas for the commodity will remain unchanged at 1.945 million tonnes.
China's Commerce Ministry said on its Web site (www.mofcom.gov.cn) that of the total, 70 percent would be earmarked for state-owned companies, while the rest would be issued to private companies. Chinese companies could apply for the quotas from October 15-30, it said. The quotas will be allocated before January 1, 2007.
