The British Council (BC) has organised a workshop under its University Students Project, aimed at discussing various issues on domestic as well as international conflicts.
The University Student Project was an initiative of British Council to engage the youth of both Pakistan and United Kingdom in discussion and debates. The theme of this project revolves around the topic 'conflict resolution in a geo-political scenario'.
The main objective of the project was to create a network of 150-200 young students from universities across Pakistan and UK, and provide them the platform to discuss various issues on domestic as well as international conflicts.
The training workshop equipped the participants with skills to participate in forthcoming activities of the project such as seminars, panel discussion and video conferencing with their UK partners on defined issues, 'The role of Pakistan government in conflict resolution', 'The role of media and UN in conflict resolution' and 'The conflicts between developed and under developed economies'.
The trainer of the workshop was Wali Zahid, who with his international exposure briefed the students about the conflicts, its causes and types and when conflict becomes violent.
During the workshop, participants discussed how domestic and international conflicts could be resolved, while Afghanistan issue was the main focus of the discussion.
At the end, AJK University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Manzoor Hussain Khan distributed certificates among the participants. In his remarks he emphasised the importance of discussions and debates on such issues and appreciated the initiative of the BC.
