Pakistan Baitul Mal (PBM) Chairman Muhammad Sarfraz on Friday said Baitul Mal was benefiting about 10 million poor people in the country. Speaking in a PTV programme.
He said the PBM was significantly contributing toward poverty alleviation through its various services and providing assistance to destitute, widow, orphan and other needy persons for their rehabilitation.
Baitul Mal was also providing social protection to the poor segments of the society, he said, adding the PBM had the transparency and ability to reach the deserving people by investigating through its own resources.
The chairman said the PBM was providing Rs 30,000 assistance for education to the needy students annually and also stipends for the outstanding students. Muhammad Sarfarz said the organisation was also providing residential accommodation and necessary facilities to the deserving people and also financing free medical treatment, setting up hospitals and rehabilitation centres for the poor people.
To a question, he said Baitul Mal budget had been increased from Rs 300 million to Rs five billion, adding that 70 of the PBM beneficiary were from villages.
