The Provincial Minister for Communication and Works, Chaudhry Zaheeruddin Khan, has said that government is utilising all available resources for providing comfortable, safe and speedy means of communication to the people of southern Punjab.
Under the Annual Development Programme (ADP), 50 out of 53 development schemes have been fully funded which would be completed during the current fiscal year, he added. He was presiding over a high-level meeting here on Sunday to review the pace of work on on-going development schemes in southern Punjab.
Secretary C and W Ahmed Yar Khan, Additional Secretary (Technical) Masood-ur-Rasool, Chief Engineer Highway (South) Rana Gaush Muhammad, Superintending Engineers and XENs concerned also attended the meeting.
The meeting was informed that 53 schemes of construction of new and widening of existing roads would be completed with the total cost of Rs 2.69 billion. During the current fiscal year Rs 947.918 million have been earmarked while Rs 1.75 billion have so far been spent on these schemes.
The meeting was further told that in Pakpattan District 9 out of 10 schemes would be completed during the current fiscal year. Likewise 6 schemes in Khanewal, 9 in Vehari, 3 in Sahiwal, one in Rahim Yar Khan, 5 in Multan, 2 in Muzaffargarh, 2 D.G. Khan, 8 in Bahawalpur and 9 in Bahawalnagar would be completed.
The minister said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi government is utilising huge amount for the uplift and progress of the backward and far flung areas and more funds have been allotted for the districts of southern Punjab as compared to the other districts. He directed the chief engineer to speed up the work so that these could be completed timely.
