The Interpol, on the request of federal government, has issued a warrant against former TPO Lyari Town, Umar Shahid, who had fled to UK after being nominated in a murder case in which 40 other police personnel were also booked, sources told Business Recorder.
The FIR No 101/2006 had been lodged in Sakrand against 41 policemen including the then in-charge of Lyari Task Force, TPO Lyari Town and others who were found guilty of extra judicial killing of Rasool Buksh Brohi, after a departmental inquiry.
Sources informed that ASP Umar Shahid who was one of the nominees in the extra judicial murder of Rasool Buskh Brohi was in city when the Supreme Court took suo motu action on the complaint of the deceased's family.
After the directives issued by the Supreme Court, the then Lyari Task Force In-charge SP Aslam Khan surrendered himself, while the investigation team caught 18 others.
It was learnt that ASP Umar Shahid taking advantage of the leniency of investigation team and with the alleged connivance of PSP officers got himself a scholarship abroad and was sneaked away to London amid tight security. The sources said that DIG Investigation Manzoor Mughal even being aware of the scene of the fleeing of an absconder took no action.
However, the federal government getting aware of the situation cancelled the scholarship of ASP Umar Shahid and directed him to get back to the country. Reliable sources told that federal government had contacted Interpol to issue the warrant against the ASP Omar Shahid.
When contacted, the IGP Sindh expressed his ignorance whether the federal government had contacted Interpol and the Interpol had issued a warrant against him.
However, he said that the government had cancelled his scholarship and directed him to get back to the country. To another query, the IGP said that ASP Umar Shahid, who is in London, was a nominated absconder and as soon as he would come back to Pakistan, he would surrender himself or the police would arrest him.
