The first anniversary of the October 8, 2005 earthquake victims was observed here in NWFP and Fata with great respect and reverence to remember all those who lost their lives and sustained injures in the country's worst catastrophe that brought havoc in AJK and in NWFP last year.
Special prayers and Dua were offered for the departed souls of earthquake victims and early recovery of the injured people. The nation observed one minute silence at 8:52am across the country for Dua-e-Istaqamat.
Meanwhile, the NWFP Information and Cultural departments jointly arranged three-day photo exhibition at Nishtar Hall here on Sunday to highlight importance of the day.
NWFP Secretary Information, Ahsanullah Khan inaugurated the exhibition and said the provincial government within its available resources was taking all out efforts for the assistance and rehabilitation of earthquake victims.
He said the people of the affected areas were returning to normal life due to their courage, determination and strong will. The process of rehabilitation of the affected areas was going on and the NWFP Chief Minister, Akram Durrani was himself supervising it particularly.
The secretary information said the administration was actively involved in providing basic amenities of life in the affected areas which helped in bringing life in these areas.
