Erra Chairman, Altaf Saleem on Sunday said that overall performance for relief and rehabilitation in quake-hit areas remained satisfactory during the year. Talking to a private news channel, he said, there were 350,000 people without any social commodity. They were protected from the extreme weather.
He said the challenge was that the entire infrastructure, including 6000 schools, health facilities, was destroyed besides damage to water supply and sanitation system.
The Erra chairman said 100 percent schools had been resettled, besides making 100 percent health facilities available in the affected areas.
He said another challenge was about house reconstruction, in which a survey of 600,000 houses had been completed, and 90 percent people had been given compensation, while 30 percent people had started reconstruction of their houses.
Another important development was provision of transitional housing to the people in tents, he said and added nearly 95 percent people had been provided with transitional houses.
Last year people had only tents, not winterised. "Now we have winterised tents, and we have food stock available. We are able to cope with problem," he added. He said, the target was that the people would be in their own houses before next year's winter.
He said 15,000 schools would be completed and almost 45 percent health facilities would also be ensured. Rest of the work would be completed in the third year, and mega projects would be completed in five years time. He said that people were being kept informed through radio and TV channels.
