About 382 health units would be reconstructed in eight districts of quake-hit areas of Azad Kashmir and NWFP within a period of three years. Consultant health sector Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (Erra) Dr Mateen Haider on Sunday told PTV that the reconstruction work in 139 health units would be completed this year.
Various donors and sponsors have committed to reconstruct remaining 242 health facilities within a period of next three years. They have also committed to provide necessary equipment, furniture, etc in the health units, he said.
There were around 796 health facilities in eight affected districts of quake hit areas. Almost half of which were demolished completely. About 25 percent were partially damaged.
Erra conducted massive relief operation soon after the disaster. From October 2005 to March 2006 as many as 385,000 temporary shelters were provided to survivors.
While the victims have been provided 951,790 tents, 6400,000 blankets and quilts, 256,376 tonnes ration and 3,053 tonnes medicine, during the first five months of disaster.
In a bid to provide state of the art medical facilities, 65 field hospitals were established while 86 mobile medical teams also provided medical facilities to survivors on site of disaster, he added.
