Punjab Minister for Population Welfare Nasim Lodhi has said that the government is determined to control population growth and eliminate poverty. She stressed the need for further efforts to control the high rate of population growth by creating awareness in among people about the benefits of small family.
Addressing a women delegation at her residence here on Sunday she said the government is undertaking comprehensive planning for checking population growth. She said that though Population Welfare Programme was started in 1960 yet the former governments due to lack of seriousness failed to get desired results.
But, she said, the government had realised the gravity of this issue and set up population welfare departments at provincial levels. She said that these steps are yielding positive results and people have started planning their families.
