Ghinva Bhutto, chairperson, Pakistan Peoples Party (Shaheed Bhutto) has said the provincial autonomy is a must to help improve the prevailing situation being faced by the country due to continuous violation of the constitutional provisions by the rulers.
Talking to newsmen, here on Monday, Ghinva expressed grave concern over prevailing state of affairs in the country. Unfortunately, gulf between the provinces and federation were widening. She said that people of different provinces were blaming each other for the problems confronted to them. In this regard, she mentioned over the differences of provinces on National Finance Commission, disagreement on the distribution of water and construction of new water reservoirs.
She sai that all the important provincial matters were decided at Islamabad without consulting the provinces. She added that elected representatives of the provinces had no say in the provincial matters.
She suggested some amendments in the Constitution to strengthen the provinces by checking undue intervention of the federation in the provincial affairs. She said that National Economic Council should be abolished because provinces know better about the planning and development of their areas. Ghinva was of the view that important seats in the provinces should be filled after consultation with the respective provincial authorities.
