A meeting was held in President's camp office Rawalpindi, on Tuesday to review a range of issues including law and order situation in Balochistan, development projects, Gwadar port and campaign by the law enforcement agencies against farrari camps.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Balochistan Governor Owais Ghani, Chief Minister Jam Yousuf, Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao and senior officials attended the meeting.
Official sources told Online that Balochistan Governor and Chief Minister apprised the President about the law and order situation in Balochistan and progress in the ongoing uplift projects. They said that the overall law and order situation in the province was better, and work on development projects was underway on fast track basis. The funds disbursed in the districts, to the tune of Rs 100 million each, were also being utilised.
President General Pervez Musharraf said that the government would not allow any one to hamper the development process in the province. People of Balochistan want progress and prosperity, and the government would live up to their expectations, he added.
The President lauded the action taken by the law enforcement agencies against farrari camps, saying that no tribal chief could hold the people of Balochistan hostage to maintain one's rule. "We are bringing them to national mainstream," he added. Over Rs 135 billion is being spent on the development of the province he said.
He said that Gwadar port would be inaugurated this year. The work on development projects be monitored as well, he directed.
The Prime Minister informed the meeting about the details of funds provided to Balochistan for its development projects and steps taken for improvement in the fiscal scenario of the province.
Sources said detailed discussion could not be held on certain matters in the meeting and it was adjourned for Wednesday.
