The National Assembly Standing Committee on states and frontier regions on Wednesday expressed concerns over the presence of 2.4 million Afghan refugees in Pakistan, and asked for their immediate repatriation. The committee met here with Sardar Fateh Mohammad in the chair, and discussed the issues of Afghan refugees and working of levies.
According to a statement issued here, the committee said that there are still 2.4 million Afghan refugees in the country due to recycling and other unfair means.
It recommended that the ministry concerned should take effective and coercive measures to ensure the maximum repatriation and stop their recycling as they are affecting badly on the country's economy.
Earlier, the committee was briefed about the service structure of federal and provincial levies and the efforts made by the government about the repatriation of Afghan refugees.
The committee pointed out that the service structure of the federal levies is different than that of provincial levies and also recommended to take effective measures to strengthen the levies and improve their service structure.
