Calligraphy is a very precious asset of Islamic civilisation and calligraphers and artists of every age and generation have been trying hard to propagate the enlightening message of the Holy Quran through their artistic skills in the form of images and words.
These views were expressed by scholar and Dean Faculty of Arts GCU Lahore Professor Dr Sohail Ahmed Khan at the inaugural ceremony of the 3-day calligraphic exhibition, here at the university. He said these exhibitions link the youth with their religious roots and promote the art of calligraphy in them. The calligraphic work done by Bashir Moojad is a beautiful blend of tradition and modernity, he maintained.
While appreciating the calligrapher, he said, 'Bashir Moojad has introduced the students with their cultural asset and civilisational traditions'. The calligraphist Bashir Moojad said that all his calligraphy is based on pen-work. He is the first pen-work calligrapher in the county and he has prepared 102 masterpieces of Islamic calligraphy.
However, due to shortage of space only 40 pieces could be put on display. He said that he was deeply inspired by Ehsan Danish and shifted his vision from literature to calligraphy. The organiser of the exhibition Abdul Waheed said that the Library Science Society has been promoting Islamic Art through such exhibitions and it was the 10th annual exhibition held under the auspices of the library society. The visitors showed profound interest in Bashir Moojad's masterpieces.
