The Sindh government is likely to exclude agriculture land situated within the limits of the city district government Karachi (CDGK) from the category of Urban area for its valuation for levy of stamp duty. In this connection, the provincial government will soon present a bill in the Sindh Assembly for its approval, it is learnt.
The Sindh Board of Revenue vide its circular letter of April 11,2002, declared all lands, including agriculture lands, situated within the limit of CDGK as urban areas and as such enhanced their valuation for levy of stamp duty.
The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) made various representations with the Sindh Board of Revenue on this issue for providing relief in valuation of agricultural lands which is still being used for agricultural purposes in the CDGK limit.
The issue was also taken up by the KCCI with the City Nazim to exclude agriculture land from the category of Urban areas. The City Nazim agreed to exclude agricultural land from the category of urban lands, and assured that a notification would be issued after approval by the Sindh government.
