The city dwellers are confronting with various problems like parking and total traffic chaos due to the poor planning of district administration, resultantly road accidents and traffic jams had become a daily routine.
The district administration had established parking stand for motorcycles, cars and cycles right under the nose of District Co-ordination Officer Sialkot, where the contractor was busy in fleecing the people by charging parking fee Rs 15 per motorcycles, Rs 20 per motorcar and Rs 10 for parking of bicycles.
It was very unfortunate that nobody dares to check the malpractice of the contractor and it seems that district administration had bowed its knee in front of the corruption. Besides, the district administration had banned the entry into premises of where government offices were functioning.
It may be added that these government offices were located in a wide locality and had a sufficient space for parking of vehicles. It was very astonishing to witness that very wide space had been reserved for the parking of vehicles of DCOs and some other some officers.
The visitors would face exchange of hot wards with the gatekeeper deputed at main entry to show his muscles and power rather humiliating attitude. It was also observed that most of the vehicles parked outside the Nazim office were decorated with "Revolving Lights" and number plates of Union Council (UC) nazims.
Similarly, at peak hours a large number of cars parked in front of District Nazim Office, as a result of, the traffic become jumbled, which created serious problems on Kutchary road.
Most of the policemen deputed for controlling and channelling the traffic fund busy in money making despite of discharging duties. Coaches, buses and wagons plying on different routes blocked roads just for picking or dropping the passengers in peak hours.
Especially at Pul Aik area, Kutchary road, Abbot road, Paris road, Lorry- Adda and Kashmir road traffic remains stuck up for a long time during peak hours but there is no policeman to handle the situation. Traffic signals on the busy roads had gone out of order since long time, as a result of which accidents had become a daily routine.
It has also been witnessed that a large number of underage children are plying cars without license, while some handicapped and physically handicapped persons were also plying rickshaws but police never make an effort to check this violation.
To make sure the smooth flow of traffic, the parking of vehicles should be banned outside the District Nazim Office and strict action should be taken against the owners of the vehicles and ensure the supremacy of rule of law. Besides, policemen should be deputed at all road crossings and junctions with strict instructions to efficiently control traffic for avoiding traffic jams in the city.
