Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Saturday said that the Federal Government will provide additional funds for the improvement of the drainage and sewerage system in Hyderabad in view of the severe problems caused by recent torrential rains there.
Chairing a meeting at Governor House held to review the post-rain situation in Hyderabad, the PM said the projects to improve the drainage system should be prepared on fast track basis for approval by the Federal government. These funds, he pointed out, will be in addition to Rs1 billion allocated for water filtration plant in Hyderabad.
Recalling his second visit to the city, Shaukat said that Hyderabad had passed through a particularly trying period, which was courageously faced by its people and district Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil.
He said the Federal Government, in co-ordination with the Sindh Government, will do everything possible to alleviate the sufferings of the people of Hyderabad on permanent basis. The meeting was attended among others by Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad, Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping, Babar Khan Ghori, Provincial Minister for Planning and Development, Shoaib Ahmad Bukhari, Minister Local Government, Mohammad Hussain, Advisor Finance, M.A Jalil, Chief Secretary Sindh, Fazlur Rehman, District Nazim Hyderabad, Kanwar Naveed, City Nazim Karachi, Mustafa Kamal, City Naib Nazim, Nasreen Jalil besides other senior officials.
