Utility Store Corporation of Pakistan (USC) and M/s. AG Group have signed an agreement under which imported frozen meat will be sold at selected utility stores at lower prices.
USC sources told APP the step has been taken to provide relief to the people by providing them frozen meat at cheaper rates compared to the market rates to stabilise its price.
The sources also said as a result of increase in the prices of pulses, a sharp increase in the prices of meat in the market has been witnessed. They said the corporation would provide meat to the consumers at comparatively lower price than the market has entered into an agreement with M/s. AG Group.
In pursuance of the agreement, imported frozen meat will be sold at selected stores initially. 'This will go a long a long way in providing economic relief to the public besides stabilising prices', they remarked.
The sources said USC is endeavouring to provide economic relief to the public at large through its sales and distribution of essential commodities like Atta, Sugar, Pulses and Vegetable Ghee at reduced prices.
The corporation is selling the following commodities at the below mentioned prices:Sugar Rs 27.50 Kg, Atta Rs 11, Dal Channa Rs 30.00, Dal Masoor Rs 31.00, Mash Washed Rs 58.00, Moong Washed Rs 53.00, Red Lobia Rs 44.00, White Gram Rs 68.00 and Vegetable Ghee Rs 66.00.
The corporation, they said is retailing more than 2000 essential consumer items and other household requirements. The prices of these items at Utility Stores are at an average 10perecnt less than the rates prevailing in the open markets. The corporation during the past one year has successfully conducted more than five relief packages, which has provided relief to the consumers.
They said that under Atta Relief Package announced by Prime Minister to consumer at reduced prices about 2,50,000 M/tons of Atta was sold. They said that under the package the USC also announced Sugar Relief Package, Ramazan Relief Package, Special Relief Package and Pulses Relief Package.
It is evident that USC in addition to other its normal discount/rebate through its stores had provided substantial discounts to consumer through relief package, which has far reaching impacts on prices in the open markets. About the impacts, they said that prices of sugar reduced from Rs 44 to Rs 34 per kg, price of pulses reduced by Rs 4 per kg and the prices of Atta remained stabilised in market. The USC sources said that the corporation has also assisted the government is handing the crises situation.
USC provided stocks of 15000 M/tons to the people in earthquake affected areas. About the present network of the corporation they said there are 1167 stores working across the country. They said out of total 1167 stores, 675 are regular stores, 450 are mobile stores and 42 are Sunday Bazaars functioning across the country.
Regarding the expansion of the network, they said the corporation has expanded its network by adding more than 100 stores and ten warehouses/distribution centres at Bahawalpur, D.G. Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, Sahiwal, Mianwali, Gujranwala, Nawabshah, Swat, Khuzdar and Jaglot.
