The International White Cane Day is being observed in Pakistan as elsewhere around the world on October 15 for creating awareness about helping the people who are suffering from blindness or reduced visibility.
The White Cane is symbolic of blind and semi-blind people who are invariably extended help and assistance by others who are fortunate enough to have eyesight with or without spectacles.
To observe the International White Cane Day appropriately, prominent artist and social worker Jimmy Engineer has arranged an Iftar party for the blind children at the Beach Luxury Hotel Karachi with the collaboration of Byram D.Avari and his family.
Blind and deaf children from Ida Rieu Institute and other institutions of Karachi have been invited to the Iftar party, which is part of the Awareness, Fun and Food Programme for the Special Children.
The special children in general and the blind children in particular would demonstrate their artistic skills and render recitations from Holy Quran, Hamd and Naats as well as Qawalis in keeping with the spirit of the holy month of fasting besides making speeches on different topics on the occasion.
The get together would enable the special children have a feeling of enjoyment and happiness and interact with each other. Jimmy Engineer had introduced the concept of the Awareness, Fun and Food Programme for the Special Children in Karachi more than four years back. He has been taking the special children to posh hotels, restaurants, clubs and parks and entertaining them with food and music with collaboration of the management of the respective entities quite regularly.
