Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that it is national, moral and religious duty of the sighted people to provide opportunities to the blind for availing their basic rights.
In his message on "White Cane Safety Day" the CM said that celebration of this day was meant for renewal of determination of the sighted people for solving day to day problems of the blind.
He said this day demands to create a sense of responsibility among the general public that the blind could also be productive and self-reliant members of the society, he added. White Cane used by the blind for facilitating their mobility was not meant only for the blind but it also makes the sighted people conscious to help the blind people and contribute in the efforts required for making them honourable citizens. He said that it should be realised that lack of sight may not be lack of vision.
He said that Punjab government was determined to make all out efforts for education, training and rehabilitation of the disabled especially blind children and was spending substantial amount of funds for this purpose. He said that in the coming years more strenuous efforts for this cause will be made.-PR
