The Federal Government has constituted a 'Co-ordination Committee for Karachi', with Sindh Governor as its chief, for providing better civic facilities in the city and to streamline them on modern lines.
In this regard a meeting was held at the Governor House here on Monday under the chairmanship of Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul-Ebad Khan in which details of the committee were examined.
Senior Minister Sardar Ahmed, Advisor Home Waseem Akhtar, Advisor Finance M.A. Jalil, Nazim Karachi, Syed Mustafa Kamal, Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman, Principal Secretary Saleem Khan and others attended the meeting.
Governor Ishratul-Ebad said that Karachi is an emerging economic hub of the region and economic engine of the country.
He pointed out that progress of this city would amount to progress of the whole country and prosperity of people.
The Governor said co-ordination is required between various organisations for carrying out development process and implementing construction projects and providing facilities while collective efforts are needed to give a civilised and developed shape to this seventh biggest city of the world.
It was for this reason that President Pervez Musharraf himself, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and federal and provincial governments are extending wholehearted co-operation for the development of this city.
For the first time in the country's history, the Karachi based federal government organisations are playing their role in the development process.
The Governor expressed the hope that establishments of special co-ordination committee for Karachi by the federal government will prove an important milestone in the development and betterment of this city.
