The Water and Power Development Authority and a consortium of Siemens AG Germany and Siemens Pakistan Engineering Co Ltd have signed a contract for the Construction of new 1200 MVA substation at Gakhar, in Gujranwala district.
The spokesman of Siemens Pakistan said on Tuesday here that the construction of the substation, with specification 500/220/132 kv, would cost Rs 3.9 billion and is to be completed by October 2008. A German financial institution, KFW, will finance the project, he added.
The substation, with a capacity of 1200 MVA, will help improve Wapda''s network and especially the power supply in the Gujranwala area administered by Gujranwala Electric Power Supply Company (Gesco).
Munawwar Ahmed Malik, EHV Wapda Chief Engineer, Joachim Heyl, vice president of HV Substation Department of Siemens Germany, and Suhail Anwer, General Manager, Siemens Pakistan, signed the contract.
The spokesman said that Heyl assured Wapda of Siemens commitment to participate actively in the development projects in Pakistan and as Siemens has demonstrated in the past, like in recently complete Wapda-KESC interconnection project, this project would also be completed in time with highest quality of Siemens state-of-the-art equipment and services.
NTDC Chief Executive Shabbir, while appreciating Siemens active participation in different Wapda projects, emphasised the need of early completion of this very vital project, which is essential to cater the needs of the growing demand for electricity in the country.
