Chairman of Senate Foreign Relations Committee Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed has said that United States should change its policies towards Muslim Ummah and should not link terrorism with Islam.
Talking to a US military delegation here at Parliament House at a dinner hosted by him in honour of the delegation, Senator Mushahid said due to wrong American policies and mistakes in Afghanistan and Iraq, the gap between America and Muslim Ummah is increasing.
Mushahid said the US should reassess its policies towards the Muslim World. He said `Islamofascism' and `Islamic terrorism' is wrong terminologies and there is need to avoid them by US policy makers to improve its relations with Muslim world.
He said, "Going to Iraq, failing to resolve the Palestine issue and linking war against terrorism with Islam" are the major reasons for the widening gap between the US and Muslim World.
Referring to Pakistan's efforts to promote enlightened moderation, the Chairman Senate Foreign Relations Committee who is also member of Commission of Eminent Persons of OIC, said this concept has been incorporated in the recommendations of the Commission which were approved at Makkah Summit last year.
He said Pakistan has been playing its due role along with the coalition forces to improve the situation in Afghanistan as any fall out of Afghanistan directly affects Pakistan.
Referring to recent visit of President Musharraf to Washington and meeting with President Bush, he expressed the hope that it would further strengthen the bilateral relations of the two countries.
Senator Mushahid, who is also Secretary General Pakistan Muslim League, also briefed the delegation about Pakistan's political situation and said that parliament is functioning and media is free.
