A civil court on Tuesday adjourned hearing for November 4 of a damages suit of Rs 2 billion for the heirs of the victims of the Multan Fokker crash tragedy which occurred on July 10.
Earlier, advocate Talib-ud-Din submitted his power of attorney on behalf of the Rolls Royce company (manufacturers of Fokker engines) and moved an application that the suit could not be filed in Lahore as the flight was bound for Sakardu from Multan via Karachi, and thus the suit could be filed in Karachi, Multan or Sakardu.
The court directed the applicant's counsel to file a reply at the next hearing. The applicant had requested for compensation of damages amounting of Rs 450 million for the heirs of all 45 victims of this tragedy.
The suit was filed by crash victim Samina's father Dr Rafique Javed, mother Nasim Rafique and husband Captain Hasnain. The applicants counsel Yousaf Kazmi submitted that PIA officials were responsible for the death of 45 people, including crewmembers, in Multan. He submitted that the captain had complained about engine faults, but the concerned authorities did not heed him.
The counsel submitted that PIA officials committed criminal negligence by not removing the faults, which had resulted in the loss of 45 human lives. He submitted that while no amount could be fixed for human life, but some compensation for the heirs of the deceased should be given.
