The Women Development Ministry has successfully completed the political training of 2800 women councillors across the country in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
Sources told Business Recorder here on Tuesday that this collaboration was initiated by Women Employment Concerns and Working Conditions (WEC-PK) project being implemented jointly by ILO and the Ministry of Labour and funded by Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
Under this arrangement, the project authorities had commissioned a consultancy to scan major ILO conventions relating to women employment conditions and similar national and international commitments of the government through international convention, constitution and national legislation.
On behalf of the Ministry, the Federal Secretary, Women Development Division had started the process of political training of women councillors in other cities.
Mehmood Saleem, Secretary Ministry of Population Welfare said that the role of women councillors was to work for women rights and create enabling environment for women workers in their constituencies. He said that the training module contained two separate documents closely linked with each other as well as with the overall training module and manual prepared by WPS.
He said the contents of this training were pre-tested in seminars organised at Quetta, Peshawar, Karachi and Multan for 200 lead trainers and research analysts.
ILO Islamabad office had handed over 28,000 copies of training module for distribution among women councillors and 200 copies for trainers of WPS, they added.
He said that the WEC-PK project's approach was unified, integrated and holistic towards the economic empowerment of women.
