US cocoa ended slightly lower in quiet trade Friday as speculators sold down in small volumes due to a lack of positive leads. The daily trading volume fell by more than half, to an estimated 4,768 lots from Thursday's official tally of 11,782.
At the close, benchmark December cocoa on the New York Board of Trade was down $9 at $1,434 a tonne, at the lower end of a $1,447-$1,427 trading range. March, the nearest cocoa contract on the NYBOT after December, was also $7 off at $1,469. The rest of the complex ended $9 to $10 down.
