President Hosni Mubarak has warned against associating Islam and Muslims with terrorism "that knows no home nor boundaries." Speaking at the occasion of Lailatul Qadr, Mubarak stressed rejection to insults of Islamic sanctities on claims of freedom of expression, said a press release issued here by the embassy of Egypt.
"The insults of the Islamic beliefs would fuel feelings of anger and extremism," he warned. Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak attended on Thursday the annual ceremony organised by the Ministry of Awqaf on the occasion of Lailatul Qadr (the night of the Holy Quran revelation). Upon his arrival, Mubarak was received by the Grand Imam of al-Azhar Sheikh Sayyed Tantawi.
Mubarak also warned against attempts being made to fuel sedition and confrontations, the so-called clashes of civilisations and religions, mixing up religion with politics and associating Islam and Muslims with terrorism that knows no home nor boundaries.Mubarak said the Arab and Islamic nations were looking forward to establishing international relations based on mutual respect and joint interests. During the ceremonies, Mubarak honoured winners of the Quran memorisation contest.
President Mubarak called for avoiding all sources of division and differences among Muslims. "It is high time for the Islamic world to unify ranks and stances and employ its natural and human resources in defence of their sanctities and interests," he said.-PR
