The Shawal moon was not sighted on Monday, and now Eid-ul-Fitr would be observed throughout the country on Wednesday, October 25, according to an announcement made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee late on Monday night.
Based on the testimonies gathered from the zonal committees regarding sighting of the moon from across the country, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, presided over by Mufti Muneebur Rehman, announced that Shawal moon was not sighted in Quetta, Karachi and Lahore. Therefore, Eid-ul-Fitr would be observed on Wednesday, and it would be the 30th of Ramazan on Tuesday. Holiday on Thursday Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Monday announced that on Thursday (October 26) would be observed as a gazetted holiday.
The announcement came after the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced that Shawal moon was not sighted and Eid-ul-Fitr would be observed on Wednesday (October 25). It may be mentioned here that the government had earlier announced three gazetted holidays (October 23 to 25) on account of Eid-ul-Fitr.
