Britain's Marc Warren, winner of the Scandinavian Masters, was named European Tour rookie of the year on Friday. The 25-year-old from Glasgow becomes the 11th Scottish golfer to receive the award and the second in three years, following Scott Drummond in 2004.
"Just looking at some of the names on the list, major champions like Tony Jacklin, Nick Faldo, Sandy Lyle and Jose Maria Olazabal, makes me realise I am in illustrious company," Warren said in a news release. "Most of the past winners have won loads of tournaments and played in Ryder Cups. That is what I want to achieve in the future."
Warren, who also recorded three other top-10 finishes in his first year as a tour member, succeeds Spain's Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano as rookie of the year.
The Scot was the unanimous choice of a selection panel comprising the tour, the Royal & Ancient Golf Club and the Association of Golf Writers.
Warren, who is competing in this week's season-ending Volvo Masters at Valderrama, is 40th on the order of merit with earnings of 393,597 pounds ($741,500).
The young Scot, who pipped fellow Briton Ross Fisher and Spain's Alejandro Canizares to the rookie award, claimed his maiden tour title by beating local favourite Robert Karlsson in a playoff in Sweden in August.
