Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has been recognised for excellence in the Geographic Information System (GIS) field with a 2006 Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) award which was conferred at the 26th Annual ESRI International User Conference, recently held in San Diego, California.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, this was the first ever time that a Pakistani company has been awarded this honour and moreover SSGC was also recognised as the flagship for Pakistan's GIS Application for gas utility. The SSGC was chosen out of more than 100,000 international organisations.
ESRI, the world leader in GIS software, presented this award to Zuhair Siddiqui, General Manager (IT) SSGC. The conference, which was the largest international GIS event was attended by 14,000 ESRI users, scientists, engineers, and students from over 200 countries. It focused on how GIS technology can better serve the world and our communities.
"The SAG awards celebrate the achievement and vision of innovators in the GIS field," says Jack Dangermond, ESRI President, while the "Winner brings benefits to their communities and influences others to do the same." SSGC also got the honour to present two papers in the conference, which were highly appreciated by the international GIS community.
Zuhair Siddiqui, GM (IT) presented the paper on "Improvement in Business Process through the use of technology" while Syed Ali Naqi, Manager (GIS) presented his dissertation on "Systematic GIS development and its successful implementation in SSGC ".-PR
