Prince Charles and his wife Camilla arrived in Pakistan on Sunday for their first ever visit to the country. A jet plane carrying the royal couple touched down at Chaklala airbase at around 10:45pm, an AFP photographer said.
Camilla was wearing a navy blue coat with a brooch and a shiny light blue scarf around her neck, while Charles wore a dark suit, double-breasted coat and red and black striped tie.
Women's affairs minister Sumera Malik and British high commissioner Mark Lyall Grant received the heir to the British throne and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall at the start of their five-day visit.
High security was in place as a black limousine then drove Charles and Camilla, who are making their third trip abroad since they married in April 2005, to an unspecified destination.
The royal tour will open officially on Monday with meetings between the Prince and President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.
An official said it was likely the issue of clemency for British national Mirza Tahir Hussain would come up, although British sources refused to say if Charles would raise the issue.
The royal couple is expected to visit Peshawar where Charles would address a college and a madrassa, a government official told AFP. Charles and Camilla are also due to travel to Lahore where Charles would attend an inter-faith meeting hosted by Punjab governor Khalid Maqbool, officials said.
Additionally they are scheduled to travel to remote northern areas hit by the October 8 earthquake. Officials say the themes of the tour will be inter-faith communication, education, youth entrepreneurship and development.
The late Diana, Princess of Wales, Charles' first wife, came to Pakistan on her first official solo trip in 1991. Officials meanwhile say security for the high-profile visit is "foolproof". British sources said that they were fully satisfied with the security arrangements for the royal couple.
