Four prisoners of Central Prison-I Sukkur, who are facing trial in narcotic cases, dug a tunnel of about 30 feet from their cell to escape from the prison but their attempt failed due to a dutiful O.G. Warder Ghulam Rasool Channa who found their cell unlocked in the night and took immediate action to prevent their escape.
According to the details received from IG Prisons Sindh Muhammad Yamin Khan, during the night between 25th & 26th October, at about 12:00 midnight the duties of security guards were changed as usual at Sukkur Prison. O.G Warder Ghulam Rasool who reported for night duty at Security Ward No 2 checked the locks of all 24 cells of this ward one by one and when he was physically checking last Cell No 24, he found that this cell was not locked and only one prisoner named Shams Khan was sitting in the cell whereas remaining 03 were missing.
He immediately informed this matter to guards deployed on the watch towers to prevent any escape and reported the matter to duty officer who with other staff went inside cell and found that the other 3 prisoners named Taj Wali, Daud Khan and Zahir Hussain Shah were busy in digging out the tunnel and dumping mud in toilet area which was attached with cell.
On checking tunnel it revealed that about 30 feet of the tunnel was completed and remaining length up to the outer parameter wall was only about 15 feet.
Had this escape attempt not timely unearthed, all these four UTPs of narcotics cases would have escaped the next morning.
